Planning for the 1st annual South Cariboo Summer Festival began in the cold of winter. Now event organizers are hoping their new summer festival is a hot attraction for locals and visitors alike for the first edition of a reborn favourite, Aug. 11 – 12 at the South Cariboo Recreation Centre.
“The Chamber heard that the Fall Fair was missed by the community,” says Shelley Morton, Exec Dir,. South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce.”We felt it would be a great economic driver for the South Cariboo and the Chamber wanted to show their commitment to the South Cariboo by bringing something for everyone to enjoy.”
Old and New Combine at Summer Festival
The festival offers old-fashioned flavors, such as traditional arts and crafts and baking and veggie competitions, along with more modern fun, such as the Mowdown Showdown lawnmower race, tandem skydiving, and much more.
“The most exciting thing about the Festival is having so many different events going on at one time that there is something for everyone to see and do,” says Morton. “From skydiving to bubble soccer to Lawn Mower Races to a Fall Fair component that we are calling the Blue Ribbon Exhibition Hall. There’s entertainment for everyone.”
South Cariboo Summer Festival Trade Show
The Summer Festival also has a Trade Fair in the South Cariboo Rec Centre.
“This is a fantastic way to let people of the South Cariboo know what you have to offer,” according to Shelley Morton. “If you are a new business this is a great way to get your name out to the public in a more personal way.”
A trade show exhibit hall will also be available for the chamber to support local businesses. If you are interested in a booth at the trade show please contact the chamber office at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Whether it's seasonal blues, cabin fever or just plain fatigue from shovelling the same patch of driveway on a seemingly endless loop, the creative forces behind some of the Central Cariboo's most popular music events have a remedy in the works. Dark Times, a three-day, multi-venue music festival promises to be a “thick blanked of warm harmonies and hip-swaying beats,” according to Arts on the Fly volunteer, Brandon Hoffman.
